Wildlife at Rowlands Wait

We are very proud to be holders of a David Bellamy Conservation GOLD Award for our commitment to supporting and promoting wildlife and the local environment to our visitors. We are also fortunate in being one of the few places in Britain where you can actually see such rare birds as Dartford Warblers, Nightjars, Red Tailed Kites and Sand Martins. When you use us as a base, all of these birds and many more can be seen within a 10 minute walk from the park. With regards to animals, you can usually see Roe and Sika Deer on the neighbouring heathland. Rabbits, Squirrels, Foxes and Badgers may also be seen, depending on the time of year. We are very fortunate to have a wide range flora (such as Primroses and Bluebells in the spring) - mature trees, wild flowers, mosses and lichens, all of which support a wealth of butterflies and moths. The pond in the centre of the park, which is fenced in, is a haven for frogs, toads, dragonflies and other aquatic wildlife. Also on the neighbouring heath you can see a good number of reptiles - so long as you know where to look ! It has been designated a SSSI (site of special scientific interest) and is continually monitored by English Nature, Dorset Wildlife Trust and the RSPB. To find our more please follow the links below.
